English: This fossil fish scale includes original scale material and an impression of the scale's surface ornamentations which are on the order of 10 micrometers. The Coleraine formation is a Cretaceous period geological formation in Minnesota that contains fossils from the Western Interior Seaway approximately 90 million years ago. This layer was exposed by iron mining on the Mesabi Iron Range. This fossil was found in Hill Annex Mine State Park in Calumet, MN. The fossil was collected on August 03, 2019 for the Hill Annex Paleontology Project which is partnered with the Minnesota Discovery Center and the Science Museum of Minnesota. The image was taken with a ZEISS Smartzoom 5 microscope at 700X magnification using stitching and extended depth of field.
