Description

Erauzketako eta meatzaritzako jarduera aspaldidanik izan da garrantzitsua Zerainen. XIV. mendetik dago dokumentatua jarduera hori (1328ko Burdinola Forua). Hasieran, Urola eta Deba ibaien arroetako burdinoletara eramaten zuten erauzitako mea guztia. Geroago, 1852an, "La Unión de Cerain" (1852) sortu zen, meategiaren industria-ustiapena bideratu ahal izateko. XX. mendearen hasieran, kapital ingelesak bereganatu zuen enpresa, eta "Cerain Iron Ore Company Limited" eratu. Lehen Mundu Gerraren ondotik denboraldi batez itxita egon ondoren, 1930eko hamarkadan alemaniarren esku geratu zen (Compañía Montana S.A.), eta 1942an, Compañía de Explotaciones Maineras Aralar S.A. espainiarren esku. Patricio Echeverría enpresaburuak, Legazpiko galdaketa-fabrika baten jabeak, egin zuen hura ustiatzeko azken saiakera. Aizpeako meatze-barrutiko azpiegitura deigarriena hiru kiskaltze-labeak dira, Cerain Iron Ore enpresak XX. mendearen hasieran eraikiak. Minerala ateratzeko galeriek, bagoneta bidezko garraiorako azpiegiturak eta Aizpita-etxeko museoak –ingeniari nagusiaren etxebizitza izandakoa, Meatzaritzaren eta Metalurgiaren Historia Interpretatzeko Zentroa orain– osatzen dute "Zerain Kultur Parkea", beste hauekin batera: Herriko Museoa, Larraondoko Zerratoki Hidraulikoa, XVIII. mendeko kartzela, Teileria, Errege Galtzada, Apaiz-etxea eta gaztaren artisau-fabrika.

Detalle de rampa junto a los hornos.Año 1989HistoriaLa actividad minero extractiva ha sido una constante histórica en Zerain; existe documentación desde el s.XIV que así lo atestigua (El Fuero de Ferrerías de 1328). En un principio, la extracción del carbonato férrico tuvo como destinatarias las ferrerías de las cuencas del Urola y Deba. Posteriormente, ya en el s XIX, se constituyó “La Unión deCerain” (1852) para la explotación industrial del yacimiento. Absorbida a principios del XX por capital inglés, formando la “Cerain Iron Ore Company Limited”, y cerrada tras la 1ª GM, pasaría a manos alemanas en los treinta (Compañía Montana S.A.) y luego españolas con la Compañía deExplotaciones Mineras Aralar S.A., cuando –en 1942- el capital alemán abandona. Un último intento de explotación correría a cargo del empresario Patricio Echeverría, propietario de una fundición en Legazpi. Lo más llamativo del coto minero de Aizpea son los tres hornos de calcinación, construidos por la Cerain Iron Ore Co. Ltd. a principios del s XX. Las galerías de extracción del mineral, su transporte en vagonetas y un museo sito en Aizpita-etxea – la antigua vivienda del ingeniero jefe, ahora Centro de Interpretación de la Historia de la Minería y Metalurgia – constituyenel “Zerain Kultur Parkea”, completado con el Museo Local, la Serrería Hidráulica de Larraondo, la Carcel del s. XVIII, la Tejería, la Calzada Real, la Apaiz-etxea y la fábrica artesanal de quesos.
