The former west portal of the twin-tunnel Mount Baker Ridge Tunnel on Interstate 90, in Seattle. During modification work beginning in 1989, this portal was permanently removed and the tunnel was effectively extended westwards by the construction of a new concrete "lid" over a nearly 2,000-foot stretch of I-90's older lanes, the lanes pictured here. (A new, parallel set of freeway lanes, using a new tunnel, opened just north of this location in 1989.) |
