DescriptionGHAR DALAM CAVE - BIRZEBBUGIA (1746308840).jpg
The early inhabitants of the Maltese Islands lived in natural caves like that of Ghar Dalam Cave, limits of Birzebbugia.
The Ghar Dalam Cave is the evidence of the early presence of humans in Malta as far back as 10,000 years ago. Fossilised bones of Prehistoric animals were found, among which, there were bones pertaining to a pgymy elephant. These fossils were found in the lower levels thus showing that they were of an earlier age. In 1917, human teeth, which probably belonged to Neanderthal Man, living circa 40,000 years BC., were also discovered on this cave floor. - MALTA
