Summary

Description
English: Grogwynion lead mines High above the river, the abandoned lead mines at Grogwynion have changed the landscape of the section of the Afon Ystwyth west of Pontrhydygroes. Effluent from the mines has led to increased heavy metal concentrations in the gravel deposits in the river, resulting in a specific local flora consisting of hardy plants such as gorse, heather and sedges. The relatively sparse vegetation makes the riverbed of this section of the Ystwyth one of the most dynamic river beds on Great Britain, with frequent rearrangements of the channel patterns during flood events.
