English: Memorial in Ota City, Gunma prefecture, Japan for victims of mining pollution. The Ashio Copper Mine pollution occurred around the Watarase River in Tochigi and Gunma prefectures from the early Meiji era in the latter half of the 19th century and early 20th century in Japan. Extensive air pollution and water polution was generated by the mines and smelters.
