English: Marl Pit, Bakehouse Orchard, Welland One of many similar pits. This one is in the north-eastern corner of the pasture that was once called Bakehouse Orchard. The pits are of similar width and are aligned with any ridge & furrow still visible suggesting that they may have been owned by one person. Marl was used to help break up the soil. Others say that these pits could have provided clay for potters.
