Summary

Description
English: The Eifl Quarry from the Old Harbour Incline. The large scale quarrying of granite began on Mynydd y Gwaith in the 1850s and for the best part of one hundred years it was the dominant economic activity in the area, leading to the growth of villages such as Trefor, Llithfaen SH3543 and Llanaelhaearn SH3844. During the 19th C the production of sets for road paving was the main activity, but in the 20th the production of road mettling became paramount. At its peak, in the mid-1920s, some 750 men were employed at the quarry and its associated port. Active quarrying came to an end in 1967.
